About Me

My foray into photography started late in life.  Having said that, like all kids in the seventies, I used a disposable camera to take 110 mm images of my friends, pets and models (not supermodels, airplane models).  It wasn’t until the mid-nineties after introduction of Sony’s first consumer digital cameras that I really started photography in earnest.  New subjects included surgical products and intraoperative photographs to adorn my lectures on surgical technique. With time, photography became much more than a hobby but I felt I was not making progress  with my photographic technique.  After attending continuing education classes on photography and industry-based workshops, I improved technically but creativity was lacking. On a whim, at 58 years old, I applied for entry into the Master of Art in Photography program at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and was accepted.  With continued good fortune, this will be my last semester at AAU and I will be able to add a couple more initials to the end of my name. I have learned how to think and talk like an artist- a language I am very proud to understand.

My life began in Lincoln, Nebraska but at a young age our family moved to the suburbs of Dallas, Texas. Despite a healthy obsession with tennis, I graduated high school in 1978 and eventually moved on to the University of Texas at Arlington earning a BS in Biology in 1983. Since I wasn’t good enough to be a tennis pro, I replaced court time with study time and succeeded in getting into medical school.  I received my MD at the University of Texas Medical School at Dallas in 1987 and started into a Urology residency afterward at the same institution. Despite be scarred by some very bizarre patient encounters at Parkland Hospital I completed my residency in 1993 starting in private practice afterward.  Since, I have subspecialized in the area of incontinence, voiding dysfunction, vaginal prolapse and pelvic pain.  Currently I serve as faculty for the Frank Fellowship in Advanced Gynecologic Surgery and for the Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Methodist Hospital of Dallas.

In my “spare time” I enjoy being outdoors.  Trail running, road cycling, and hiking are my typical activities when spending time in nature.  I love the mountains and deserts of Texas and New Mexico.  If I have to be inside, sitting on the couch, in the very specific center of the soundstage projected by my two channel stereo, listening to true classic rock or contemporary jazz music, will take my mind off what I am missing outside. I love cooking and have goals to make the perfect cinnamon roll and an unforgettable pot of black beans.
